Have you ever heard the saying, “you have to ask the right questions and that..the key to great problem solving is asking the right questions?”
Envision a courtroom or even the scene of an accident where finding out the truth is essential for gaining the victory. There’s no time to falter or fumble in your words if the assignment is to be understood, mastered and the desired outcome achieved. It’s the same in our walk with Christ. Knowing the truth is imperative and it begins with asking the right questions!
There are two or three essential questions that we must ask and know the answer to as we navigate life. We’ve got to, “understand the assignment, ” as they saying goes in 2026. Moses asks two of those questions in Exodus chapter 3. An angel of the Lord has appeared, a bush is burning and Moses is being summoned. Moses has, for the past 40 years, been in a bit of hiding so this is huge! It’s his big moment! It is here he is commissioned by the Lord to go to Pharaoh on behalf of the Israelites; to “tell Pharaoh to let my people go.” I picture him standing there, sandals off, mouth wide open in awe. It’s quite an assignment, after all. However, in the end, he manages to ask all the right questions.
This question from Exodus 3:11 that Moses asks is: “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out?” It may seem that Moses is lacking confidence and the scripture does say he was a meek man with difficulty speaking. Yet, this is still a superb question which we should ask God ourselves when we are called upon. Actually, each of us are summoned to solve a problem, born to be a solution to a situation, and add value to an environment. We may lack confidence or we just may need more detail. In this text, God doesn’t give Moses great detail, but answers by basically saying, ” I will be with you and I have sent you.” Who are YOU? In short, you are a sent one whom God is with! What a simple, yet wondrous pronouncement! Later, Moses came to understand all the details, like the fact that he had a heart for God’s people. He learned that he had the necessary meekness, patience, endurance and leadership ability for the task at hand. These things and more are what we, too, can discover about ourselves once we ask the question of God.
